Souls during sleep

* I am re-posting this old post due to change of email account. *

I was telling you
how, millions of years ago,
with Oxygen levels extremely high,
the wettest rain-forests burnt wild
and skies were a perpetual sepia

I remember one time

Lost along the ceiling of uneven dark,
wondering how marvels come by -
marvels long gone, marvels long due -

I looked at you

who had fallen asleep on my arm,
whose soul had sneaked out
sometime during the Earth-story

The soul had left you - all souls of living bodies do -
well, in slumber only.

Dreams are accounts of souls a-wandering;
imports not for us to hold

The night rippled on your face
And moving closer... closer...
I fell asleep
as softly as a fallen leaf
